Sandy is a mixed media artist based on the West Coast of British Columbia, where the mountains meet the Pacific and the rain is a steady companion. Her practice is rooted in a cyclical dialogue between the body and the more-than-human world, an ongoing material and conceptual inquiry into place, presence, and transformation.

She works in watercolour, acrylic, graphite, and ink, with a central material methodology that anchors every work: the water she paints with is collected by the artist herself. Gathered from the sites she has inhabited and moved through over the past decade, from rooftops, snowfields, rivers, ocean, and alpine lakes, each body of water enters the work not as symbol but as substance. As index. It is the thing itself: a source of life, growth, and beginning embedded directly into the surface.

Becoming a mother introduced a seismic shift in her practice. The physical weight and emotional depth of that threshold experience thrust expansion upon her body and mind in a way that continues to unfold. Themes of transformation, liminality, and somatic knowledge have moved to the centre of her work. The body, gestational, postpartum, and altered, becomes both subject and site. Motherhood, like the tide, does not ask permission. It simply arrives and reshapes the shore.

Her visual language draws from the elemental and the local: the unpredictable grey of a Pacific winter, the way a river navigates around what it cannot move through, the stillness of a mountain lake at first light. Sandy's practice is an exercise in sustained attention, to landscape, to self, to the inevitable and cyclical nature of being alive in a body, in a place.
